St Pat’s won the final played at Porirua Park on August 10 by 35-14, after leading 25-0 at the halftime break. The game was played in awful conditions with temperatures in the low single figures, as well as strong wind and occasional rain.

Despite a mini comeback from the Piri Weepu-coached Wellington College team in the second half, St Pat’s never really looked seriously threatened, duly able to close things out, before both players, and loud and proud schoolmates in the stands, each performed simultaneous haka in stirring celebration.

Standouts for St Pat’s were co-captain and flanker Elijah Solomona with two tries and first-five-eighth Fletcher Cooper who contributed 15 points with his boot.

A post on the college’s Facebook page congratulated the players for an “outstanding performance from each and every one of you. You represented our kura with heart, skill, and determination”.

St Pat’s are the 2025 Tranzit Coachline Cup champions with the win. St Pat’s has appeared in every Wellington boys 1st XV final since 2017, and it has won the competition six times in those nine years.

As the path towards the national boys’ top-four finals continues, St Pat’s will next host Hastings Boys’ High School in the Hurricanes region semifinal.
