A Te Awakairangi Parish bulletin stated that Archbishop Paul Martin SM would join the community for the Mass, which will start at 8.30am.
The church’s register of religious items has been updated, and work has been done with the Archdiocese of Wellington to ensure that all Church guidelines have been followed for the closure of the church.
“We ask the whole Te Awakairangi Parish to keep the Closure Committee, the pastoral team, and the Avalon community in your prayers,” the newsletter stated.
“May the Holy Spirit guide us through this time, bring comfort to all and help us walk together in faith and love. As this change unfolds, all our communities across the Te Awakairangi parish remain open and ready to welcome one another. We know this time brings both sadness and new opportunities.
“Let us support one another, make room for each other in our hearts and liturgical and pastoral activities, and respond not only with compassion but also with a sense of responsibility for each other, just as Christ taught us through his care and love.”
