The Society of St Vincent de Paul is partnering with dairy giant Fonterra to provide food for some South Auckland schools and families.

For every Vinnies Kitchen premium meal Fonterra buys, Vinnies Auckland gives extra food – doubling the kai for freezers at schools (Kura Kai) that support students and their families.

“It is awesome to be partnering with Fonterra to provide bulk meals for Kura Kai freezers in various South Auckland schools with our premium ready-to-heat meals,” stated a Vinnies Auckland Facebook post.

“In a time of high living costs and huge demand, this partnership helps ensure rangatahi (students) and their whānau have nutritious, ready-to-heat meals when they need them most.”

For more than 20 years, Vinnies Kitchen (VK) in Auckland has shared meals with the community.

“We have served food, shared kai and brought people together around the table. Volunteers, local cooks and passionate chefs have shaped this journey. What started as a way to nourish neighbours has grown into something bigger,” the Vinnies Kitchen website stated.

“Today we share VK Meals with more people while continuing the work that supports our community.”

There are several locations in Auckland where Vinnie’s Kitchen meals can be bought or picked up. All profits from VK meals go towards advocacy and providing practical support for families and individuals affected by poverty and other social issues. The social enterprise also offers Aroha Meals, which customers can purchase to provide a meal for families in need.

Last year, Fonterra in the Waikato supported Vinnies Hamilton, who put together care parcels for the elderly in the local community, as well as providing other services.
