Scripture scholar to present formation sessions in Hamilton

A Professor of Scripture at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Dr Healy will offer advice on how attendees can listen more attentively to God’s voice and will talk about building a living Church.

The title “Rebuild My Church” is a reference to Christ’s words heard by St Francis of Assisi, “Go and rebuild my house” – which was a call to renew hearts, not just walls.

Last year, Pope Francis appointed Dr Healy as one of four new members of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, an advisory body directly serving the pope on matters of liturgy and sacraments.

The Hamilton formation series events will take place in June at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Three evening sessions on June 9, 10 and 11 are titled “The Power of God’s Word”, “The Holy Spirit Brings Life”, and “For Such a Time as This”.

There will also be day-time workshops for leaders and for clergy. Registration is requested for sessions and workshops.  

Known around the world for her engaging teaching on Scripture and the Holy Spirit, Dr Healy helps people hear God’s voice more clearly and grow in confidence in the gifts God gives for the building up of the Church.

Dr Healy is the author or editor of more than a dozen books, including the Catholic Commentary on Sacred Scripture, The Spiritual Gifts Handbook and Healing.  

In 2014, Pope Francis appointed Dr Healy as one of the first three women ever to serve on the Pontifical Biblical Commission. She has also served as a consultor to the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and as a member of the Pentecostal-Catholic International Dialogue, which serves the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.
