The competition, held annually between Catholic secondary schools in the Auckland Diocese, took place this year at Sancta Maria College in Flat Bush on May 1.
Among the competition categories were senior and junior Scripture proclamation in both English and te reo Māori, junior prepared speech, senior oratory and waiata (singing).
A St Mary’s College Facebook post celebrating their success stated that “this outstanding achievement is a testament to the talent, faith and dedication of our students”.
“Congratulations to all our brother and sister schools for their magnificent performances. We extend special thanks to Sancta Maria College for their warm welcome and manaakitanga today.”
In a Facebook post, Sancta Maria College thanked “the 16 Catholic secondary schools of the Diocese of Auckland who we hosted on Friday afternoon for the annual Pompallier Shield. The afternoon celebrated the very best of our students’ faith, hope, unity and friendship, through waiata, speeches and performance”.
“Our sincere thanks to Bishop Stephen Lowe and judges who generously shared their time, wisdom and experience to inspire and guide our ākonga (students).”
