Content sought for book marking 100 years since Aubert’s death
Venerable Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert (Sisters of Compassion/RNZ)
2026 is the centenary of her death, and to mark the occasion, the Compassion Companions are publishing a book in which people share their personal encounters with Suzanne’s life, work and spirituality.
The book’s title, Grace and Favours, refers to the spiritual blessings, gifts or petitions granted by God through Suzanne’s intercessions.
Suzanne was a scholar, a social welfare pioneer, a champion of disadvantaged children, an advocate for the poor and the sick of all creeds and none, and a friend to Māori. She was also a woman of deep faith who founded Aotearoa New Zealand’s only homegrown religious congregation, the Sisters of Compassion.
Promotional material for the new project says “nobody who encounters the story of Suzanne’s life, work and spirituality remains unchanged”.
“You become part of the story, and we are all the richer for it – know the story, tell the story, be the story,” the invitation stated.
“You are invited to submit your reflections for possible publication. Submissions may take the form of an artwork or photograph, a poem, or a written reflection.”
Submissions may be emailed to mission@compassion.org.nz by August 31, 2026. Further requirements for submissions are here.
