Deacon Iosefa Setu recently received a 2026 Clutha District Council Community Service Award, in recognition of his leadership, deep faith and generous service.
The Council said: “Iosefa founded the Samoan Society of the Clutha District and helped create a welcoming place where newly arrived families, seasonal workers and minority communities can find support, belonging and guidance. He helps families navigate schooling, settlement and complex challenges with care and compassion.
“He has also secured vital grants and support that continue to uplift the wider community. Iosefa works quietly and tirelessly to build understanding between families, schools and other agencies.
“His support extends to Fijian, Kiribati and other migrant communities, and his work has made a lasting difference in many people’s lives.
“Through his spiritual leadership within the Balclutha Catholic Parish, and his work to unite Samoan churches across the district, Deacon Iosefa has helped create a stronger, more caring and more connected community.”
The Council expressed warm congratulations to Deacon Setu on “this well-deserved recognition”.
