The competition, hosted by Sacred Heart Girls’ College in Hamilton on August 7-8, was described as two days of “fierce competition, faith and friendship”.
Among the competition categories are public speaking, debating, drama and Scripture reading. The five competing colleges were St John’s, Sacred Heart, Aquinas College from Tauranga, John Paul College from Rotorua and Campion College from Tairāwhiti, Gisborne.
A Sacred Heart Girls’ College Facebook post stated that, “the sense of unity between these young people made this weekend truly special. A celebration of faith in a creative, supportive environment”. Sacred Heart finished “a close second” in the competition this year and took home the Spirit of Chanel Shield Award.
A St John’s College Facebook post stated “we are very proud of all of our young men who represented us so well”.
A Mass was celebrated involving those in the competition at the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Hamilton on August 7.
The 2027 Chanel Shield will be hosted by Campion College.
