Dunedin youth enjoy faith-filled event

More than 200 youth, young adults and parents from all corners of the Diocese gathered in Balclutha on September 20. They enjoyed a faith-filled day of fun, inspiration and celebration.
Fr Joseph Nguyen, Sr Maria Francis from Little Sisters of the Poor and Pesamino Tili gave inspiring talks, while Fr Suu Nguyen and Invercargill participants kept everyone entertained with fun games and activities.
An Indian youth group added colour and energy with joyful entertainment. The highlight of the day was the Jubilee Mass with Bishop Michael Dooley, where different cultures were celebrated – Kiribati youth enthroned the Gospel, Tongan youth made the offertory and theme song, Samoan and Filipino youth led the readings and prayers, and the Balclutha youth blessed the congregation with their music.
In his homily, Bishop Dooley challenged everyone to ask: “What is God trying to grow in us?” The day wrapped up with lunch, blessings and plenty of joy-filled memories.
A Dunedin Diocese newsletter stated that “gatherings like this are vital for helping our young people grow strong in their faith and know they are a valued part of the Church today”.
Gratitude was expressed to “Deacon Iosefa Setu and his team for putting together such a spirit led and joy-filled event!”
