On October 7, Swims treated more than 400 screaming Marian College students to an intimate lunchtime concert few will forget. The US hitmaker, whose songs have racked up billions of streams, performed songs and answered questions from the students and staff.
The college thanked radio station More FM for “giving our school this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! This is one day we’ll never forget!”
The girls didn’t hold back, belting out Swims’ chart-topper Lose Control word for word and queuing up for hugs, selfies and autographs.
The star recently became a dad and told the crowd his dream collaboration might surprise them.
“Weirdly, I want to collab with The Wiggles,” he grinned. “I’ve got a three-month-old son now that would be great.”
The Marian College appearance came three-and-a-half weeks after Swims sang with opera legend Andrea Bocelli at the Grace for the World live concert before 250,000 people at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican. It was the first time a concert took place in that location.
Swims sang Amazing Grace with Bocelli. The US singer said afterwards: “I’m truly so honoured and humbled to have had the opportunity to perform at this amazing event at the Vatican with Maestro @andreabocelliofficial nonetheless!! Such a historic evening!”
Grace for the World marked the Catholic Jubilee Year and the closing of the third World Meeting on Human Fraternity, a conference that focused on spiritual and cultural initiatives.
Two days before the Marian College event, Swims sang in front of 80,000 people at the NRL Grand Final in Sydney. This is Swims’ third visit to New Zealand.
