Christian community for young women launched in Island Bay
(Sisters of Compassion)
Te Pūaroha Community is designed for young women who may be seeking an alternative to halls of residence, or who wish to live alongside like-minded Christians in a setting that nurtures both spiritual growth and personal formation.
It will offer a safe, faith-centred living environment grounded in prayer, service and shared life, with residents invited to live within the rhythms of prayer and hospitality that shape life at the Home of Compassion.
At the heart of the community is a commitment to shared Christian life: daily prayer, mutual support and an openness to service. Te Pūaroha Community members will become part of the wider Compassion whānau, offering a gentle presence on weekends and assisting with continuing the mission and enduring values of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert.
“Our Lady’s Home of Compassion has always been a place where faith is lived through prayer, service and manaakitanga,” said Rebecca Taylor-Hunt, who is tasked with building the community.
“We want to create a space for young women to deepen their faith while living in a supportive, safe and purpose-filled environment. Over time, this invitation may be extended to all, but for now we want to take our time and get this right.”
Residents will likely come from all walks of life, and an ecumenical approach is envisaged. What will unite the community is a desire to live Christian life intentionally, in companionship with others and in solidarity with those served by the Home of Compassion.
Applications are now open, and expressions of interest are warmly welcomed from young women who feel drawn to this way of life.
