Wellington Archbishop Paul Martin SM has commended to readers Bringing the Word to Life, a booklet of reflections for Advent and Christmastide prepared by Fr James Lyons. Source: WelCom.

The 84-page booklet has “contributions from a variety of members of our Church community in the Archdiocese and beyond”, Archbishop Martin said.

“The reflections help us to make the most of the Advent season, which can often pass us by in the busyness of the end of the year.”

The booklet offers daily reflections on the Scripture readings throughout Advent and Christmas for 2025/26.

At the start of the document, Dennis Horton, one of the contributors, wrote that “this series of reflections . . . is offered as stepping stones for this season, from the First Sunday of Advent to the close of Christmastide, which will also mark the end of the Jubilee of Hope”.

“A reading of the text for each day carries an invitation to join once more in making straight a way for the Lord. It is God who issues the call, and whose grace empowers us to respond. May Christ be born again in our ‘yes’ to that call.”

There are more than 30 people listed as contributors to the project, with Cardinal John Dew being one of them. Several past and present editors of Catholic publications, including Sr Ann Gilroy RSJ, Mr Horton, Michael Fitzsimons and Cecily McNeill are also among the contributors.

Parishes are able to place orders for 10 or more copies by completing the order form (link below) and emailing it to info@wn.catholic.org.nz. The cost is $5 per booklet.
